Independence Day is the National holiday of the United States. It is celebrated on July 4 because that is the day when the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

It is also known as Fourth of July and is commonly associated with fireworks, parades and family outdoor activities.
